Georgia
- PROBLEM SOLVING STATE
- 1732, James Oglethorpe founded Georgia to create a colony where debtors could have a fresh start. King George II signed a charter founding Georgia. 21 called trustees would govern the colony, the British hoped that Georgia would protect Florida from the Spanish and Louisiana from the French, and it was a place where prisoners could go to start a new life.
- For Georgia's economy, they basically trade and export plantation crops and items such as tobacco, corn, cotton, vegetables, grain, fruit, rice, sugar, indigo and livestock.
- Georgia is made up of hilly coastal plains with many large forests. The climate in georgia had a hot and humid summer which allowed disease to spread quickly and the winters were not bad at all. The warm weather was perfect for growing crops.
- Georgia was lead by trustees which lead and made all decisions for the colony
- Celebrity Residents- Paula Deen, Ryan Seacrest, Clarence Thomas, Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson, Spike Lee and President Jimmy Carter.
- Georgia wasn't taken over by a specific religion, but was mostly made of Anglicans but gave freedom to other religions as well.
- Residency Requirements- There wasn't much you actually had to do to become a resident. You just had to be willing to work VERY hard and if you wanted to be able to make laws/participate in government you had to be a white male and own 500 acres of land. There wasn't a specific religion you had to be because of nationality laws.
- Target Residents- Georgia was made for people who wanted to start a new life. Mainly, people who were in debt or prisoners.
- Founding Documents- The Most important founding document was the Royal Charter.
