South Carolina
- South Carolina and North Carolina started as one big Carolina founded in 1663 by the 8 Lord's Proprietors (English nobles) who had recieved a charter by King Charles II. In 1729, South Carolina was officially became its own colony because of economic reasons.
- The colony's economy was mainly rice, indigo, and tobacco production. There were many plantation crops so, the plantation owners were the wealthiest people. Much of the economy depended on slaves.
- They had a proprietary government which means the King had granted the 8 proprietors permission to govern the colony. The Fundamental Constitutions of Carolina was an early form of government for the colony.
- Geography: South Carolina has a coast line along one side of it and mountains along another. The land is pretty marshy with a lot of rivers running through it. It has hot summers and mild winters.
- Famous people from South Carolina are President Andrew Jackson, Joe "Shoeless Joe" Jackson, and Vanna White.
- The religions in the colony were Anglican and Presbyterian. The Christian Protestant religion was the official religion of the state. They believed in religious freedom as long as you were Christian.
- Residency requirements: You had to agree with the Christian religion.
- Target residents: mainly English residents coming from Barbados.
- An important founding document was the Royal Charter signed by King Charles II to allow the 8 nobles to come and start the colony.
